Women's Vertical World Record! WE DID IT!! :D

Day 1

Hey team, so it's all happening, the Women's Vertical World Record is ON, and the ladies are on the hunt for a new number.... Day 1 was today, and after a few crazier dives on the first couple, things seemed to be settling out by the last dive today. No record yet, but the group is definitely showing progress, quieter, calmer flying moving into Day 2. Started with 24, ended the day with 21, but everyone is working to dial in head levels and calm mind and body. Amy and Melissa said at the end of today that a few changes would be made going into tomorrow, but I think that we're sticking with the same type of formation. 7:30AM show time tomorrow, so we'll find out then. :)

Mind you, this update is coming from me, a hard-core 4-way FS competitor turned new but hard-core 4-way VFS competitor/enthusiast who has never done a bunch of this stuff til yesterday/today, so yeah, um... keep that in mind when reading my updates..... hahaa..... I'm still the one just happy to be here. Heck yes. Bring it.

(Oh, and no joke, being last diver out of the skyvan has got to be the coolest move I've ever done out of an airplane... I mean, you pretty much hop off the edge into the dead air as you're doing a cartwheel, keeping your eye on the base, catch the prop blast on your back, which throws you immediately into a flock down the hill. At least, that's how I've been doing it, and it seems to be working well... and damn... it's fun.)

Ok, I'm out.... will try to write more tomorrow to keep you posted.
Word!
Mel :)

DAY 2

WE DID IT!!!!!!!! Yes, that's right, officially, today, we set a new Women's Vertical World Record with a 20-way. Tomorrow we're shooting for 25 as an ultimate goal. I can't say enough about Amy, Melissa, Sara, and Curtis organizing-- they all are outstanding, and it's been a phenomenal learning experience on every skydive up to this point. And of course each and every BADASS skydiving chick involved in this record.... hats off, pants off, whatever, you rule, let's go for more tomorrow. Good night, sleep tight. OUT!

DAY 3

We tried for 24 ways all day Saturday. The skydives were outstanding... quiet and calm, but one or two things happened on each one such that they didn't quite complete. We built a 23-way on the 2nd jump of the day. Long days of high-altitude and sucking on oxygen tubes took it's toll on all of us and by the end of the day, everyone was exhausted, happy, and ready for a beverage. Not only the organizers, but big kudos need to go out to the camera flyers as well-- Jason Peters, Greg Gasson, and Norman Kent-- awesome, and so incredibly supportive and cool. THANK YOU. Can't wait to get a big framed picture for my wall. Can't wait to bring this excitement from what I've learned back to the aspiring badasses at Elsinore. Can't wait til the next record.

One thing Amy said in the plane right before the last jump that is exactly right.... she said, "There are many things in life that really matter... getting this record is NOT one of those things." We do our best, we enjoy and learn, and we appreciate the entire journey.

Cool, anyone who wants to get involved, or has any questions, feel free to drop me a line anytime.... mel@skydiveelsinore.com.

Rock on.
Mel :))
